Use of HCFA Medicare claims data must meet various legislative and regulatory requirements designed to protect the confidentiality of the beneficiaries and providers. To obtain Research Identifiable Medicare data files, researchers are required to submit a formal data request to HCFA. The Research Data Assistance Center (ResDAC) is a HCFA contractor that provides free assistance to academic, non-profit, and governmental researchers interested in using HCFA data. ResDAC assists researchers with identifying the Medicare data files appropriate for their study and the method to obtain the data from HCFA. Presenters will review the type of technical assistance available to researchers and the methods and requirements for obtaining Medicare claims data.
