This session will discuss key strategies employed and evaluated by battered women shelters, local health departments and other community based organizations throughout California in the complex delivery of domestic violence prevention programs. This statewide initiative funds a range of programs, providing direct services and prevention programs, to serve battered women and their children, and to impact the problem of domestic violence in California. Specific funding was earmarked to fund 25 domestic violence prevention programs in communities across the state, ranging in scope from smaller interventions within shelters to larger, more complex, multi-disciplinary community collaboratives. Grantees funded through this program were required to conduct evaluation activities, and to participate in networking meetings, statewide conferences, and other technical assistance and training events to increase cross-project information sharing, capacity building, and more effective program outcomes. Evaluation results from these programs, as well as a statewide assessment of capacity building efforts, will be presented for the purposes of: 1) defining key prevention objectives; 2) sharing effective domestic violence prevention strategies; 3) identifying key evaluation questions to be addressed in future evaluation efforts; and 4) proposed strategies for integrating effective interventions into future domestic violence prevention programs.

Learning Objectives: 1. At the end of this session, participants will be able to define 3 measurable objectives that may be used in domestic violence prevention programs; 2. At the end of this session, participants will be able to articulate effective strategies employed in domestic violence prevention programs; 3. At the end of this session, participants will be able to identify and discuss key evaluation questions that need to be addressed in future domestic violence prevention efforts; and 4. At the end of this session, participants will be able to propose strategies for integrating effective interventions into future community domestic violence prevention programs
