Nancy Breen, PhD, Applied Research Program, Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences, National Cancer Institute, 6130 Executive Blvd MSC 7344, Suite 4005, Bethesda, MD 20892-7344, 301/496-4675, nb19k@nih.gov

The National Cancer Institute collaborated with the California Health Interview Survey to administer a modified version of the 2000 National Health Interview Survey cancer module to a representative sample of the state's population. Through this collaboration, CHIS will provide measures of cancer risk and cancer control among an ethnically diverse population, as well as statewide and locally. The adaptation of CHIS involved modification of an in-person survey module for telephone administration and culturally and linguistically adapting items as well as coordination across different organizational capacities and cultures.
