GRAA Advocacy Training: Effective Public Health Advocacy

Advocacy is one of the key tools in the increasingly difficult effort to secure funding for the myriad public health programs that benefit communities, individuals, and the nation. In addition, support from the public health community helps to assure that local, state, and federal policy-makers will adopt, implement, and maintain important public health regulations, policies, and programs. To effectively advocate issues of concern to the public health community, APHA educates and mobilizes its members at the local, state and federal levels on important and emerging public health policy initiatives. With the commitment to providing members and affiliated constituencies with the resources they need to become effective advocates for public health, the APHA Government Relations and Affiliate Affairs (GRAA) Department has developed a set of advocacy tools based on applied models taken from the staff's research. This information has been compiled and published in the APHA Advocates' Handbook
