Abstract #41252

Domestic violence: An older women's health issue

Nancy Worcester, Domestic Violence Training Project, UW-Madison, 313 Lowell Center, 610 Langdon Street, Madison, WI 53703-1195, 608-262-3635, cmckinley@dcs.wisc.edu

Domestic violence is a major mental and physical health issue for mid-life and older women. However, domestic violence is even more often overlooked in older women than younger women, older women are less likely to know about resources, and many domestic violence services do not adequately serve the unique needs of older victims. This presentation will particularly focus on issues relevant to public health and health care settings and share expertise and resources from the Wisconsin Coalition Against Domestic Violence's Older Battered Women's Project.
