Data was collected between July 2000 and April 2002 from a national survey of local public health jurisdictions, a collaboration of CDC and Department of Justice. In this survey, a fresh approach using a “survey team” of respondents was utilized to more fully represent the range of services required to respond to public health emergencies in the local public health system. We analyzed data from 2,007 jurisdictions covering the full population in 47 states, the District of Columbia, and 3 U.S, territories (American Samoa, Northern Mariana Islands, and Puerto Rico). Data was collected from 10,354 persons who completed the assessment as contributors to the “survey team”. These jurisdiction responses (n=1,990) were completed by 1,990 survey teams ranging in size from 1 to 50 respondents. We report the extent to which this approach was used by respondent jurisdictions to complete the survey and provide descriptive statistics on the 9,936 “survey team” respondents who provided “job” category information. We also looked at the distribution of “survey team” size by population of jurisdiction.
