The goals of the Youth Health Initiative (YHI) program are to: 1) increase access to family planning and sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening services, and 2) improve the quality of services provided to male and female youth ages 24 and under in California. An evaluation of the 2005 YHI program included a survey to more than 4,000 youth receiving services in 28 agencies throughout California. The evaluation plan and survey development involved collaboration with program managers and program staff. This poster will discuss the process of working with adult and youth YHI staff in the development of the survey used in the program evaluation. Specifically, it will outline lessons learned from pre-testing, efforts to effectively measure exposure to outreach, and refinement of survey layout.
