SUMMARY:
Epidemiological exploration for Malachite Green tainted freshwater fish risks in Hong Kong begins from assessing bio-activation between 'toxic' chemicals and metabolism among living things. The active sites located are the nasal, oral mucosa and respiratory linings of mucosa and the alimentary tract. Tracing the route of hazards , it reflects that psychological stresssor factors that relate hormone secretion with handling and transportation of animals( may apply to fish with vertebrate and nerve system ) are present . It is noted that agitation , restraint, isolation and deviation from routine all cause rise in cortisol level. Local data suggests that the existing route structure and trade practice and government procedures all induce the use of excessive use of M.G. Furthermore,. complex human activities divert the solution map from direct conclusions. Instead, it has to be redrawn with signposts by-passing vested interests of existing position and power holders. With the dynamics of event, political bickering of major politico-economic players who may receive undue attention because of the health risk crisis has to be smoothened. On the other hand, broad and honest values with support by new entry of actors from inter-sectorial interests are paramount for the making of health-risk-free policy . As a dependent territory, HK's genuine interests need to fall on the backing of international rules.: the EU Rome Convention against health or life risky imports; the WHO guidelines against deliberate epidemic and UN Charter of self-determination principles against discriminatory action from central government.
