This presentation will cover the important role of clear health communication and what public health professionals should and should not do to communicate effectively to a large population, particularly during a time of crisis.

Learning Objectives:

• To establish the emergency preparedness responsibilities from the public health perspective and from the population perspective.
• To describe what people's state of mind is at times of crisis and how the public health community can communicate better and more effectively.
• To identify the benefits of communicating at time of crisis using health literacy principles.
• To define a vision for the population on what they need to know at times of crisis to protect themselves.
