| In recent years, violence against women has been recognized by the international health community as a significant public health issue. Opening this session is The Man Who Stole My Mother’s Face, by Cathy Henkel (2003; 58 min.), a devastating exploration of sexual assault in South Africa. Next, a series of short digital videos produced for South Africa’s “Men As Partners” (MAP) program (2005; 20 min.) serve to highlight the connections between gender-based violence and HIV/AIDS. Followed by Q&A with MAP producer. | |||
| Learning Objectives: As a result of attending, participants will have increased knowledge of the topics raised in the films; and will understand the vital role that film and video can play in addressing public health and international health issues. | |||
