This study was undertaken to assess pharmacists' role in prevention, detection, and screening of prostate cancer. A total of 89 participants were included in this study. A 36-item self-administered questionnaire was distributed to all community pharmacists attending the 25th annual Florida Pharmacy Association conference. Assessing pharmacists' attitudes about prostate cancer revealed that most pharmacist were willing to discuss prostate cancer awareness with their patients; 1 percent strongly agree, 71 percent agree, and 26 percent neither agree nor disagree with discussing prostrate cancer with their patients. The results also showed that 56 percent of pharmacists strongly agree with educating their patients about prostate cancer. In general, pharmacists were very knowledgeable of prostate cancer. The average score was 10. 4 + 2.1. Although pharmacist knowledge of prostate cancer was high, most pharmacists were willing to ascertain additional prostate cancer education. In sum, the data suggests that pharmacists can be very instrumental in prostate cancer screening, detection and prevention. Future research should focus on discovering short and prompt ways to educate pharmacists with the necessary skills to provide prostate cancer education.
