Jayfus T. Doswell, PhD, Juxtopia, LLC, 1101 East 33rd Street, Suite B304, Baltimore, MD 21218, 443-451-7263, jayfus@juxtopia.com

Social injustice is a primary cause of many health problems in the United States and other countries around the world. This is especially true in the United States where, according to the Census Bureau, 46 million persons are uninsured. The government has a responsibility to provide care to those uninsured and correspondingly assist those who are unable to afford health care. However, with proposals to reduce net funding for Medicaid by $45 billion over the next ten years, these reductions may have significant implications for the Medicaid program's ability to provide health care coverage to low-income uninsured Americans, and consequently pose a human rights violation. To confront this potential social iniquity, consumer telemedicine/telehealth demonstrates a potential solution for delivering quality health care at a lower costs to those uninsured. This poster will present a novel and low-cost method of delivering telemedicine/telehealth services to uninsured individuals by leveraging the need for real-time public health data and the technology advancements of health informatics and information technology (HIIT).
