This presentation will move from data analysis with communities to the use of that data to help impact on policy. Key steps in the policy advocacy process will be identified and discussed. Selected tools and techniques for working collaboratively with community partners to better define the problem area, create awareness, construct policy alternatives, identify policy targets and goals, and get to outcomes will be explored. Power mapping, Lewin's Force Field Analysis, and examination of possible policy objectives against the criteria of "good issues" will be demonstrated. Case studies of two successful CBPR partnerships' efforts to impact on policy in environmental justice and food security in Harlem, New York and San Francisco, California respectively will be used to illustrate the steps and methods discussed. Lessons learned and cross cutting themes and findings also will be presented.
