As health administrators we sometimes neglect the health of our organizations in the quest to advance public health; nevertheless the health of our organizations largely determines the impact of our work. This presentation explores and encourages the use of teams as a means to improve organizational health. Teams can be used to create, redirect and accelerate change and improve employee morale. Participants will learn how teams can be used in organizational development, planning, policy, core competencies and health promotion. Participants will recognize the importance of superordinate goals in team formation and conflict resolution. Participants will learn ways in which teamwork and employee satisfaction are related. A bibliography will be provided for research on the use and benefits of teams.

Learning Objectives:

• 1. Cite ways teams can be beneficial to organizations.
• 2. Describe how teams have been used in a specific health department unit.
• 3. Imagine ways teams might be used in their own organizations.
• 4. Identify three core components of employee satisfaction and articulate their relationship to teamwork.
