Abstract #154573

State and local perspectives on community based environmental health initiatives

Robert G. Blake, MPH REHS, Environmental Health Services Branch, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 4770 Buford Highway NE, MS F28, Atlanta, GA 30341-3724, 770-488-4978, rgblake@cdc.gov

The DeKalb County, GA, Board of Health was a recipient of an EPA CARE level one grant to conduct a community-based environmental health assessment. This grant enabled the Environmental Health Division to interact with one community within the county using the NACCHO Protocol for Assessing Excellence in Environmental Health (PACE-EH) methodology. Based on the experience as the Environmental Health Director at the DeKalb County Board of Health and on his new role as the Director for Environmental Health Services Branch at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the presenter will discuss the effort to support the work of local environmental health units in community based environmental health initiatives. The presenter will also discuss the significance of the new federal collaboration to local and state efforts to support community-based environmental health initiatives.
