Objective: Our aim was to identify disability-associated factors for performing basic daily living activities (ADL-B) in the insured population of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) 60 years of age or over. Study population: The national sample is representative of older IMSS-insured adults was obtained in the survey. Health needs and services utilization by insured IMSS population >60 years of age comprised 21,576 older adults; however, only 14,330 cases with complete information on all required variables were included. Materials and Methods: Our group carried out a transversal study by means of a survey with national representation. Disability was defined as the diminution of the ability to perform basic daily living activities, and independent variables (ADL-B) included age, civil status, educational level, employment condition, health perception, presence of chronic diseases, cognitive decline, body mass index (BMI), physical capacity, and familial support networks. We conducted logistic regression analysis to estimate disability-associated health and sociodemographic factors. Results: Conditions that showed an association with disability for ADL-B were sex, age, education, employment situation, cognitive decline, health status, presence of chronic diseases, BMI, and physical activity. Conclusions: The results of this work contribute valuable information on disability-associated frequency and risk factors in performing basic daily living activities in population >60 years of age.
