Recent calls from the public health and aging networks underscore the need for easily-referenced, on-line information on the health status of older adults. In response, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Healthy Aging Program developed an interactive, web-based version of The State of Aging and Health in America 2007 report. This well-received report, first published in hard-copy in March 2007, in collaboration with The Merck Company Foundation, provides a picture of our nation's progress in promoting the health and well-being of older adults and in increasing positive behaviors and reducing risk factors that contribute to premature death and disability.

The interactive, web-based version includes the most current national and state-level data on 15 key health indicators for older adults related to health status, health behaviors, preventive care and screening, and injuries. It also spotlights innovative community-based health promotion programs for older adults and provides compelling “Calls to Action” on key health issues for older Americans. The report's data and information can be easily accessed by a number of key variables, including by an individual state and by a specific health indicator.

This poster describes how to access the interactive version of The State of Aging and Health in America 2007 report, and its usefulness for public health and aging professionals, policymakers, researchers, and others involved in efforts to promote and preserve the health of older Americans.

• Identify at least two state-level indicators describing an important health issue for older adults in the US.
• Describe at least one way national and state-level data on key indicators of older adult health can be used.
• Describe at least one evidence-based approach that can be used to prevent falls.
