Abstract #158576

A pilot project in Arkansas: The UCA health education-faith based initiative:

Felicia Dionne Taylor, PhD, Health Sciences, University of Central Arkansas, PO Box 5016, Conway, AR 72035, 501-450-5513, FeliciaT@uca.edu

The UCA Health Education Faith-Based Initiative is a collaboration between a faculty researcher and three faith-based entities in Arkansas. Created to address health needs in primarily Black church populations, the project's goals included partnership building, data collection, and development and implementation of small health education participatory groups. Needs assessment data was collected in the form of statewide pastoral leadership surveys and three congregational focus groups. This presentation will present research findings, discuss the ongoing efforts to organize and continue the established relationships, and describe a collaboratively developed plan for future programming.
