Using the impacts and outcomes identified in the Strategic Framework for improving racial/ethnic minority health and eliminating racial/ethnic health disparities, a systematic process was undertaken to identify and select performance measures for such impacts/outcomes. This presentation describes this process for identifying and selecting performance measures from authoritative data sets relevant to health, minority health, and health disparities; creating and recommending developmental measures for which data sources need to be refined or developed; using a subset of these measures to guide the work of the Federal Office of Minority Health and its partners; and informing further research and evaluation where adequate and appropriate indicators of desired impacts and outcomes are not yet available.

Learning Objectives:

• Describe how the Strategic Framework provides the foundation for development of performance measures relevant to health, racial/ethnic minority health, and racial/ethnic health disparities at the individual, environment/community, and systems levels
• Identify at least 6 authoritative data sets used in the systematic identification of performance measures for minority health improvement and health disparities reduction and criteria for their selection
• Discuss the limitations of the measurable and developmental performance measures being developed and used, and their implications for further research and evaluation
