Abstract #166338

What the pamphlets forget to mention: The impact of the Iraq War on military families

Elizabeth Frederick, MPP, Military Families Speak Out, P.O. Box 300549, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130, 617-983-0710, Elizabeth.frederick@gmail.com

This talk will provide information about the impact the Iraq war has on military families. While many soldiers and Marines come back unharmed, thousands of others are returning from Iraq with physical and mental wounds that could take years to heal. Many families are unprepared and ill-equipped to assist their loved one in dealing with the trauma of living through war. As the Iraq war continues to rage, families continue to be damaged and torn apart, and lives forever altered. This talk will shed light on what happens after the welcome home parades have ended, and the struggle to regain a sense of normalcy begins.
