This talk will provide information about the impact the Iraq war has on military families. While many soldiers and Marines come back unharmed, thousands of others are returning from Iraq with physical and mental wounds that could take years to heal. Many families are unprepared and ill-equipped to assist their loved one in dealing with the trauma of living through war. As the Iraq war continues to rage, families continue to be damaged and torn apart, and lives forever altered. This talk will shed light on what happens after the welcome home parades have ended, and the struggle to regain a sense of normalcy begins.
Learning Objectives:
- Recognize that the struggle doesn't always end just because the deployment is over.
- Describe the impact the Iraq war has had on military families;
- List tools for better understanding the struggles faced by military families, even after their loved one has returned.
