Abstract #166610

Physicians Obtaining Skills and Knowledge in Public Health

Anthony Schlaff, MD MPH, Regional Medicine-Public Health Education Centers, Tufts University School of Medicine, 136 Harrison Avenue, Boston, MA 02111, (617) 636-6584, anthony.schlaff@tufts.edu

A case study of an infant death is used by the Tufts University MPH program to teach the social ecological model. The case has particular utility in teaching physicians and medical students because it demonstrates the way physicians can and do contribute to public health actions. It also demonstrates how a public health perspective can improve clinical care. The case study will be distributed and an abbreviated teaching session using the case study will be conducted.
