Oral
Maternal Mortality: The Shame of the World
Twenty years after the Safe Motherhood Initiative was launched more women are dying from pregnancy-related causes than in 1987. Why has the world allowed this problem to worsen while donating increasing sums on other world health problems? What new interventions, programs and policies have developed to increase our ability to save more women's lives?
Learning Objectives: 1. Review the reasons why maternal mortality remains an unsolved problem in the world 2. Identify practices and policies to help prevent maternal deaths 3. Learn from projects what has worked to decrease maternal deaths in resource poor settings
