Social Justice and Human Rights Related to Occupational Health and Safety
This session will present new data on workers choice to form unions and politics and policy movements for workers health; higher wages, safer jobs and improved health care access. The session will also investigate ways to reduce day laborers' injuries and illnesses, as well as the social, financial and emotional impacts of work related injury and illness.
Learning Objectives: 1. Disseminate information on policies affecting public health 2. Develop approaches that incorporate worker and community collaboration in political and policy decisions to solve public health problems in the broadest sense 3. Describe workers’ centers organizations in an urban setting including membership, mission and structure and current health and safety initiatives 4. Recognize that occupational injuries and illnesses have significant impact on many injured workers beyond the physical effects of the injury/illness
