WHO Growth Standards: Background and Rationale for Developing a New International Growth Standard for Infants and Young Children
The presentations in this session will focus on a systems approach to breastfeeding support. Both the effect of healthcare system policies and practices and the effect of workplace facilities and policies will be addressed. The role of the public health practitioner is to provide leadership in the programmatic introduction of improved materials so as to best support their use and purpose. Proper transition to the new standards necessitates at least three significant public health activities.
Learning Objectives: 1. Describe two components of a breastfeeding friendly healthcare system. 2. Discuss an effective collaboration between a breastfeeding coalition and labor unions to support breastfeeding in the work place.
