International Perspectives on Policies for Women and Children
This session will provide examples of programs addressing policy change for improving outcomes in international maternal and child health. These examples are from major regions of the world, and include rights based approaches to reducing maternal mortality, changing policy to improve newborn survival, improving provider skills and south-south collaboration to increase knowledge about women's health in health professions training, continuing professional education and communities.
Learning Objectives: •Identify key elements of policy affecting women’s reproductive health, maternal mortality, and newborn care •Articulate the relationship between research and policy development in newborn care •Analyze rights based approaches to reducing maternal mortality •Articulate the relationships between governments and non-governmental organizations in the provision of maternal and newborn services •Discuss the importance of education and training of health providers about women’s health
