Sids Risk Factors and Safe Infant Sleep Practices Among Diverse Populations
This session will present recent research on the relationship between SIDS, sleep location, prenatal smoking and drug use, and other SIDS risk factors. The roles of parents and child care providers in preventing SIDS will be examined. Potential intervention strategies will also be discussed.
Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to: 1. Identify legislative strategies to promote SIDS risk reduction. 2. Discuss maternal smoking and drug use during pregnancy as risk factors for SIDS. 3. Identify factors associated with choice of infant sleep location. 4. Recognize risky behaviors among bedsharing mothers.
