| This interesting session will focus on the epidemiology of various chronic diseases. Presentations will include a discussion of drug tracer estimates for Parkinson's disease prevalence in British Columbia, prevalence and cost of chronic kidney disease in the presence of comorbidities, interactions with diabetes and cardiovascular disease, effect of life stress on overall and central obesity patterns, the prevalence of learning disability in US children with asthma and diabetes, and the relationship between diabetes and depression in disadvantaged patients. | ||||
| Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) will be able to: 1. Identify various approaches to estimating disease prevalence, especially as applied to Parkinsonism 2. Describe the overlap among Medicare/Medicaid dually-enrolled populations diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, diabetes mellitus, and congestive heart failure 3. Describe the relationship between life stress and overall and central obesity patterns 4. Identify health status correlates of diabetic patients with depression 5. Recognize learning disability as an important co-morbidity with two common chronic childhood diseases, asthma and diabetes | ||||
