| This session will explore LGBT mental health within a variety of populations and cultures. Using a risk/protective conceptual model to examine the impact of sexual orientation on outcomes in federally-funded transitional living programs, Maurice Gattis, MSW will begin the session by presenting findings on sexual orientation, mental health, and service outcomes among runaway/homeless youth. Kamilah F. Majied, PhD, LICSW will then speak about a mixed-methods approach to exploring sexual LGBT oppression and mental health among people in the African Diaspora, research undertaken as part of as part of the International Sexuality and Mental Health Research Project. Lee Carson MSW, LSW will then address the rates of sexual abuse and partner violence in a population about which, historically, not much is known on this topic — Black men who have sex with men in Philadelphia. Kaveh Khoshnood, PhD will then discuss Islamic social stigma as experienced by homosexuals and transsexuals attending a sex clinic in Tehran, Iran. Finally, Annesa Flentje Santa, MA will conclude the session by presenting the findings of an online survey which asked LGBT military veterans about their experiences while serving in the military and following discharge. | ||||
