Public Health Nursing Education and Practice
This session will consider current trends in public health nursing education and practice. Papers will include analysis of strategies to recruit and retain public health nurses; research with nursing students regarding tobacco use; integration of policy into CHN courses; and examination of Quad Council Competencies in local public health department nursing practice. The session will provide valuable information for professionals involved in public health nursing education and practice.
Learning Objectives: 1. Describe the prevalence of job dissatisfaction, burnout, and intentions to leave among public health nurses. 2. Describe research of nursing students regarding tobacco use and dependence treatment for smoking. 3. Discuss a new teaching strategy to incorporate policy into Community Health Nursing courses. 4. Describe a collaborative strategy used to fund and create a promotional video for recruitment and retention of public health nurses. 5. Analyze the results of a statewide survey to identify the importance of the Quad Council Competencies in local public health department nursing practice
