| This session provides continuing discussion of the impact of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita on healthcare provision in Louisiana. It begins with a discussion about the importance of federal, state and local government in maintaining safety net hospitals. Further, The Louisiana Public Health Institute will articulate the multi-sector partners they worked with in the Post- Katrina recovery. Finally, the learner will hear leaders from the state of Louisiana provide answers to tough questions on health infrastructure and rebuilding as Louisiana recovers from the aftermath of these hurricanes. | ||||
| Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to: Discuss the effects of Hurricanes Katrina on health services and identify recommendations for future natural disasters. Identify the recovery activities conducted by the Louisiana Public Health Institute and its partners in response to the disaster. Describe the new medical challenges existing in Louisiana as the state rebuilds and recovers. | ||||
