| Asthma is a major health care problem among children, over nine million US children have been diagnosed with the disease. Consequently, the continuing development of new programs to meet the needs of these children, school and medical personnel, counselors, and family care givers is essential for the well-being of all concerned. | ||||
| Learning Objectives: Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to (1) Identify the components of the “Staying Healthy-Asthma Responsible and Prepared” (SHARP) academic and counseling program; (2) Discuss the outcomes of the “In-School Asthma Education Program” developed to address asthma management in students grades 3-5; (3) Describe the success of “ The Asthma 411" program developed to reduce absenteeism among students attending St. Louis schools; and (4) Identify findings from the Journal of School Health’s special issue on “Managing Asthma in Schools – What we have learned.” | ||||
