| This session focuses on reaching men with reproductive health information and services. Programs face significant challenges reaching men. One panelist addresses the need to provide sexual and reproductive health information and services for heterosexual males, a group that have been largely ignored. The paper describes successful strategies for reaching men, including young men. Another paper presents results from research testing couple-focused family planning services. The findings can be used to encourage providers to tailor family planning counseling to the unique needs of each client, rather than assuming that male involvement is irrelevant to women. Another paper will address best practice models that have been developed in California that can be useful in other settings. A fourth paper assesses the role of married and unmarried men in contraceptive behavior, and male contribution to unintended pregnancy. A final paper describes a research study that focuses on teen pregnancy prevention from the adolescent male perspective. | ||||
| Learning Objectives: ƒÞ Recognize men¡¦s need for sexual and reproductive health services and the extent to which such services are provided and challenges to providing services to men. ƒÞ Identify a best practices guidelines in screening, education, and counseling, and clinical diagnosis and treatment and understand the implications of a best practice model of clinical health care for males ƒÞ Understand the chart abstraction tools used to collect best practice data. ƒÞ Articulate indicators of constructive male involvement in family planning use. ƒÞ Identify women to whom a couple approach may be most relevant. ƒÞ Analyze the ways in which contraceptive behavior of men is modified by individual characteristics, discuss similarities in contraceptive use by marital status and identify male contribution to unintended pregnancy. ƒÞ Apply current research on male involvement in pregnancy prevention to public policy and program development. | ||||
