| Overweight among adolescents continues to increase dramatically and health and physical education are deemed essential to promote healthy weight among youth. Physical inactivity and excessive television watching are among behaviors believed to be contributing factors to weight gain. The presentation will include discussion of a successful after-school program for promoting physical exercise, results from a study on physical education and physical activity environments in California Schools, and a report and follow-up on the CDCs Division of Adolescent School Health’s (DASH) “D-Train Model” (DASH-Training Network) and “Physical Education Curriculum Analysis Tool” (PECAT). | ||||
| Learning Objectives: Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the presentation, the learner will be able to: (1) Describe the “DASH-Training Network” (T-Train) and the ‘Physical Education Curriculum Analysis Tool” (PECAT); (2) Discuss the implications of physical inactivity and excessive television viewing among high school students; (3) Identify the components of the “Sports, Play and Active Recreation for Kids” (SPARK) Program; and (4) Articulate the findings of the California physical education and physical activity environments study. | ||||
