Diverse and International Program Planning
The session will give perspectives on culture and language; educational disparities in socioeconomic status and race; illiteracy and reduced graduation rates among American minorities; and challenges to health education programs like discipline issues, violence, HIV/AIDS, and “professional stagnation” in South African schools.
Learning Objectives: Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to: (1) Describe the psychometric validation of the Decision Balance Scale (DBS) and its translation from English into Chinese; (2) Discuss the role of coordinated school health programs in reducing health and educational disparities; (3) Describe the process of Concept Mapping among Korean high school students to identify health education content; and (4) Articulate the “Health Promoting Schools” (HPS) evaluation project to identify demanding school health issues in South African Schools.
