| This discussion on School safety planning programs will include papers on hand hygiene education for elementary school children, school emergency drills, evaluation of cyber-threats to students and school staff, college and university preparation for pandemic influenza, and evaluation of legislation that could affect release of student health information in times of endemic crises. | ||||
| Learning Objectives: Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this program, learners will be able to (1) Discuss the results of an intervention study to evaluate three modes of teaching elementary school children how to wash their hands; (2) Articulate the results of the Philadelphia Department of Public Health to assess the current state of college and university planning for pandemic influenza; (3) Discuss the dilemma surrounding release of student health records protected by the “Family Education Rights Privacy Act” (FERPA) in the face of an emergency crisis like pandemic influenza; (4) Describe the New York State Center for School Safety (NYSCSS) project to develop policy for cyber-related threats to schools; and (5) Assess a study completed in Los Angeles Schools to identify problems and obstacles encountered during school emergency drills. | ||||
