APHA-Student Assembly: Current Topics in Student Research
This session includes presentations on current student research. Topics include hepatitis risk, identifying health needs among minority groups, domestic violence prevention among Latinas, mortality after Hurricane Katrina, and workers compensation and income loss.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) will be able to: 1. Assess at-risk patients’ understanding and likelihood of honest response to assessment questions; 2. Recognize the main concerns, conditions, diseases and barriers that many Hispanics face when attempting to access social and health services; 3. Identify the role of cultural, social, and behavioral factors in regards to domestic violence; 4. List three barriers that complicate the collection of mortality data following a major natural disaster; 5. Understand workers' compensation effectiveness and negative filing effects.
