| Evaluation of breastfeeding programs including national level surveillance and WHO recommendations are the focus of this session. Topics addressed are environmental, personal and health status factors affecting breastfeeding outcomes for diverse populations that include local as well as national level data. Recommendations for interventions and policy development to address the identified areas of concern are discussed. | ||||
| Learning Objectives: 1. Identify seven major barriers to continued breastfeeding. 2.Describe the differences in reasons for weaning given by mothers at different points during the infants first year of age. 3. Discuss the implications of the WHO recommendations for infant feeding in the context of HIV for breastfeeding women and those who provide health care in South Africa. 4. Identify at least three action steps to increase exclusive breastfeeding in Latina women during the perinatal period. 5. Describe four recommendations that would improve the US national breastfeeding surveillance. | ||||
