APHA Scientific Session and Event Listing |
3050.0: Monday, November 05, 2007: 8:30 AM-10:00 AM | ||||
Oral | ||||
| ||||
| This session will cover US policies that affect providers and potential recipients of abortion both in the US and internationally. While diverse, there are many US that, together, limit abortion access and undermine abortion safety. Recent policies involving abortion practice, including those related to late-term abortions and TRAP laws, as well as the "Global Gag Rule" will be discussed in depth. The session will address how such state and federal policies affect women and their families (as well as how many women may be affected) and the implications of such policies on abortion access, conduct, and safety. Of specific concern is how such policies affect underserved women and result in disproportionate access between advantaged and disadvantaged women. | ||||
| Learning Objectives: At the end of the session participants will be able to: 1. Discuss major US policies that affect the safety and conduct of abortions in the US. 2. Discuss the implications of US policy on abortion access and safety in developing countries. 3. Identify how US policies disproportionately affect vulnerable populations. | ||||
