| Five youth violence prevention efforts are highlighted in this session, with a focus on critical evaluation of programs and considerations for the potential for programs to be adaptation to other locales. | ||||
| Learning Objectives: 1. Describe YES, a community level violence prevention project that engages 7-8th grade students with neighborhood organizations to run community improvement projects designed by youth. 2. Describe the 10 National Academic Centers of Excellence on Youth Violence Prevention (ACE), which serve to connect academic and community resources to study and create lasting ways to prevent youth violence. 3. Discuss the UNITY Roadmap tool to help cities assess infrastructure and needs and create effective and sustainable youth violence prevention programming by delineating the essential elements of a citywide strategy. 4. Describe PIRIS, a state-funded program in Pennsylvania to integrate injury surveillance with personalized, supervised interventions designed to aid recovery and reduce violence among 15-24 gunshot wound victims and their families. 5. Describe Voices Against Violence, a middle-school prevention program that addresses the critical role bystanders can play in preventing school violence. | ||||
