3039.0: Monday, November 05, 2007: 8:30 AM-10:00 AM
Oral
Innovative HIV Interventions among Vulnerable Populations
Innovative HIV interventions are needed that target vulnerable populations, including persons currently living with HIV/AIDS. In this session, participants will learn about several innovative programs and the efficacy of these programs on changing behaviors. The first presentation will discuss the effectiveness of a computer program in improving screening and counseling among HIV-positive adults. The focus of the second presentation is the evaluation of a brief, safer sex intervention delivered in a clinic setting that focuses on yong African American males recently diagnosed with an STI. The third presentation will report on a field investigation of a prevention program that combined drama theory with social cognitive theory in Ethiopia. The focus of the fourth presentation is the efficacy of a peer delivered program while the final presentation will focus on factors correlated with stigma among HIV positive persons residing in India.
Learning Objectives: 1. Articulate socio-demographic factors associated with the development and implementation of education/prevention programs 2. Describe behavior changes resulting from the implementation of innovative strategies and prevention programs that target risky behaviors among diverse populations 3. Identify the barriers and facilitators associated with applying innovative education and prevention programs
