HIV Medical Care and Outreach: Context and Culture
Receipt of regular HIV medical care is critical for health maintenance. In this session, participants will learn about four projects that focus on providing medical care in diverse settings. The first presenter will discuss the impact of an outreach program sponsored by HRSA that aimed to reduce health disparities among underserved populations. The outreach program was implemented in nine cities and took into consideration socio-demographic factors as well as issues relating to service use and needs. The second presentation will examine the patient attributes that were predictive of receiving high quality primary HIV care in accordance with public health system guidelines. In the third presentation, the presenter will report on clinicians' attitudes regarding the provision of HIV prevention services, perceptions regarding their abilities to address sexual risk and drug use behaviors, and perceived structural barriers to providing these services. The focus of the fourth presentation will be the impact of advocacy campaigns in the United States.
Learning Objectives: 1. Describe client and clinician characteristics associated with the development and implementation prevention programs 2. Discuss research methodology issues surround diverse data collection methods. 3. Articulate health care issues regarding prevention programs in Africa.
