HIV Research and Practice: An International Focus
HIV/AIDS remains a global epidemic, and is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in various countries worldwide; highlighting the importance of international research. Thus, the posters within this session address the needs of vulnerable segments of the population residing in South Africa, India, Brazil, Laos, and China. Several of the posters evaluate different prevention programs and their effectiveness in improving HIV patient care. Other posters investigate SES, HIV knowledge levels, attitudes, and risk behaviors among vulnerable populations. The issue of ART is addressed in some of the posters.
Learning Objectives: 1. Articulate current attitudes, knowledge levels, and risk behaviors among diverse, vulnerable groups residing outside of the US. 2. Evaluate prevention strategies in changing risk behaviors among diverse, vulnerable groups residing outside of the US. 3. Identify challenges to the development and implementation of HIV prevention programs among diverse, vulnerable groups residing outside of the US.
