Health Promotion and Disease Prevention II
The purpose of this session is to address health promotion and disease prevention within four specific populations: persons with developmental disabilities, childhood cancer survivors, adolescents living in tobacco producing regions, and family members of lung cancer patients. It will have relvance to practicing public health nurses, researchers, and educators.
Learning Objectives: 1. To identify the unique vulnerabilities of people with developmental disabilities to hazards in the environment. 2. To describe how breast self-exam may be superior to mammography in early disease detection for the childhood cancer survivor. 3. To evaluate specific protective factors for nonsmoking related to mother-daughter communication in adolescents living in tobacco producing regions. 4. To discuss characteristics of smokers who are family members of lung cancer patients.
