This workshop will focus on the political environment for important public policy initiatives and how to successfully navigate through problematic issues. Further discussions on training public health professional staff using the Japanese health care system as a model will be highlighted. Insight on the “lobbying game” for influencing health care legislation and subsequent funding will be emphasized.
Session Objectives: Participants should be able to: List requirements for implementing a major public policy initiative, including methodologies for addressing obstacles. Evaluate leadership of public health centers under the structural reform of the Japanese health care system. Develop an increased understanding of the “lobbying game”.
