Sustainability of the public health system is fundamentally linked to an understanding of the financial resources used and needed to fund the system. Momentum to advance a field of study in Public Health Finance is building in order to provide a framework for rigorous and routine examinations to support resource allocation decisions. This Panel includes results of quantitative analysis of public health system taxation and funding patterns and associations to health status and other funding sources and also includes descriptive analysis of challenges related to classifying public health appropriations and estimating national public health expenditures.
