Abstract: The Center for Disease Control has created a Coordinated School Health Program Model (CSHP)that is an important resource for school wellness policy implementation. By developing and implementaing school policies on health, physical activity, nutrition, food services and community networking, school cans create an environment to promote health while enhancing achievement by all students.

This session is intended to provide an overview of the CSHP Model while focusing in on the need for community networking to assure success of school strategies. Wellness Coordinators, School nurses, Health and Physical education educators are critical links for wellness policy success in the school setting. The PHN is leader in the community setting with credibility and experience in achieving public health's essential role for public health education.

The 2010 Healthy Community objectives parallel school wellness policy implementation. 2010 and CSH are cohesive models that the PHN may take to inform practice while promoting the health of the community in general.
