Faculty will provide detailed information on the two HCUP national-level databases: the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) and the Kids' Inpatient Database (KID). The design, file structure, research applications, and benefits/limitations of both of these databases will be discussed. Additionally, information on HCUP's newest pilot national database – the Nationwide Emergency Department Sample (NEDS) – will be presented.
