Perspectives of the Association of State and Territorial Directors of Nursing (ASTDN) with regard to contemporary public health nursing issues will be provided during this presentation. Specifically addressing the standpoint of governmental public health nursing, this presentation will highlight the work of ASTDN in addressing recently identified public health nursing topics such as emergency preparedness, quality improvement and accreditation, and other similar topics. The role of partnerships with other national public health nursing organizations will also be included.

Learning Objectives:
Describe the unique role that ASTDN has in supporting the work of public health nurses in state and local health departments. Discuss the value of partnerships in addressing the current issues facing public health nurses in the workforce.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I am the State Director of Public Health Nursing for the Utah Department of Health and the President-elect of the Association of State and Territorial Directors of Nursing. I have been a public health nurse for 12 years and in nursing leadership positions for over 20 years. I have served on the Quad Council for two years and participated on the 2007 Quad Council Learning Institute Planning Committee.
