Wednesday, October 29, 2008: 12:55 PM

Enrique Rios Espinosa, MD , Mexican Ministry of Health, Deputy Director for Migrant Health, Mexico City, Mexico
An overview of the very complex and well structured system of primary, secondary and tertiary care for Mexicans in Mexico will be presented. This system is based on the premise that access to health care in Mexico is a constitutional right. Limitations and benefits of this system will be described to better understand the perspective of the Mexican migrante in the United States, and how their experience accessing health care in their native country (Mexico) may be counterintuitive to accessing heath care in the U.S.

Learning Objectives:
1. Describe the structure of the Mexican Health Care system including the IMS, ISSTE and SRE managed programs. 2. Understand the limitations and benefits of those systems. 3. Better understand the perspective of the Mexican migrante in the US in terms of accessing health care on either side of the border.
