5165.0 Its Your Game, Keep It Real: An Effective Program for Breaking Down the Borders of Traditional HIV Prevention for Middle School Students

The purpose of this session is to describe the development, implementation, and evaluation of an effective classroom and computer-based HIV, STI, and pregnancy prevention program for middle school students. This session will outline a stepped process to develop interventions that are founded on theoretical and empirical evidence, provide a real time demonstration of an innovative LAN-based gaming component of the curriculum, describe implementation challenges and solutions, and describe longitudinal effectiveness data, discussed in the light of future research implications.
Session Objectives: Participants will be able to: 1. Describe standards for the development and implementation of effective technology sexual health programs for adolescents. 2. Describe the outcomes of an intervention designed to reduce risk behaviors among adolescents. 3. Describe mechanisms for incorporating best practice strategies into sexual health programs for adolescents.
